Rosé Watermelon Basil Smash

There are some drinks that just exude summer, and who doesn't want to sip on some one or two refreshing cocktails poolside on a hot day? Two of my favorite summer fruits are mangos and watermelon, so I couldn't resist combining two seasonal favorites: watermelon + rosé. Unsurprisingly, the combo is a complete dream–crisp, fruity, bubbly, and just the right amount of sweet!

Like many drink recipes, you really can't mess this cocktail up and the proportions can be tweaked based on personal preference. I also love the idea of making a huge batch for a BBQ or large party, especially since it contains just four relatively inexpensive ingredients that are available at most grocery stores. The only thing that's going to stop me from making this every weekend is that I don't currently have a knife hefty enough to cut through a giant watermelon and buying too much of it pre-cut is a little pricey :)

Rosé Watermelon Basil Smash

  • 1 bottle of your rosé of choice*

  • Fresh watermelon, cut into cubes (I bought it pre-sliced at TJs and cubed it from there)

  • Seltzer or club soda

  • Basil

  • Ice, if desired

  1. In a glass, combine approximately 4oz rosé with 2oz seltzer. Adjust proportions accordingly depending on the size of your glass, to taste, or for strength.

  2. Add watermelon and a couple leaves of basil to each glass. For stronger watermelon flavor, use a spoon or muddler to slightly break the fruit chunks down. Chill or add a few ice cubes before serving.

I used Le Ferme Julien from Trader Joe’s…inexpensive and so good

P.S. Frozen watermelon chunks make great ice cubes, too!
